Cornerback Darin Baldwin is presumed to be a strong Florida lean. The 5-foot-11, 176-pounder out of Homestead (Fla.) South Dade is beginning to select official visits and the Gators are on top for his first trip.
"Florida is definitely my leader. I'm thinking of heading out on a trip there on January 7th," he said. "I really think I can go in and start next year for them. I know their secondary is hurting and my high school defense is very similar to what they do. The coaches have also been talking to me for a while and I just think Florida would be a good fit for me.
Rumor has surfaced that Baldwin may have committed there. Is there any truth to it?
"I haven't committed yet and I don't really know when I plan to," he said. "I guess it could be anytime."
The three-star prospect is planning to take other officials to North Carolina State, South Florida and Central Florida.
"My coach in high school has some connection with North Carolina State and I don't think I'd have any problem playing there. I might visit this weekend," he said. "I chose South Florida and Central Florida basically as backups where I can go in and play early. If I can't get what I want then why not stay close to home."
Baldwin and South Dade lost in the third round of the playoffs last weekend in a tough 28-18 game against Northwestern. He finished the year with two sacks, five interceptions, three kick returns for touchdowns and two forced fumbles.
