Dayton impressive with next two classes

Coaches seem to be just waiting for a little more evaluation before offers start showing up quickly for the several talented players at Dayton (Texas) High School.
Coach Jerry Stewart says that plenty of schools have liked what they saw from his star running back Michael Dugat, but many schools either haven't traveled to the school yet or are waiting to see him in spring practices.

"Michael is pretty real," Stewart said. "He's weighing around 200 pounds and he's about 5-foot-9 right now. He bench presses 310 and squats 475. You add that with the fact that he has great hands and is very strong, he'll be one to watch."
Dugat also has the bloodlines to along with his skill. His cousin Dakarai Pearson played at the University of Texas. Stewart compares the two family members.
"We're outside of Houston and a lot of people didn't think Pearson would be that big either until they came down to see him," Stewart said. "Michael is as good as that or anybody around. He sees the whole and explodes through them. Plus, he can catch the ball out of the backfield."
If that wasn't enough, Stewart says that he'll have quite a few big players to fill the gaps when Dugat leaves.
"We've got a junior-to-be in John Gable who could actually push Michael for playing time," Stewart said. "He's 5-9 at about 180 pounds and he's the real deal. When Mike leaves, he'll be the man to carry the ball for us."
Another 2008 prospect is already drawing praise as one of the best to come out of the halls in Dayton.
"Ford Smesney was the newcomer of the year in our district as a sophomore and he'll be the best defensive back we've ever had here at Dayton," Stewart said about his young star. "He's a do-everything kid."
While his 2007 kids wait on offers, Stewart says that once the spring months start unfolding, the interest should continue to build.
"All of the 07 kids, people are just waiting on," he said. "I can't say when those offers will come. But, with a guy like Mike who scored 17 touchdowns as a freshman, 28 as a sophomore, and 22 this past year, he's going to make the plays that college coaches are looking for."
