Dawkins thrilled about first offer

Brandon Dawkins was surprised when Notre Dame offered recently especially because the 2014 quarterback from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian had not talked with any of the Irish coaches.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect was taken aback but also thrilled because it was the first offer for him and definitely a big one to seriously consider as his recruitment moves forward.

"It was really big," Dawkins said. "Most first offers, I'm not trying to bag any schools, but they usually come from smaller schools, not really big programs. The first one coming in from Notre Dame I feel really blessed. It's a really good offer and program.
"Jimmy Clausen went out there and did really well out there. I like the program and the offense they run and everything they do."
Dawkins, who shined at the Southern Cal Rivals.com Showcase Powered by FBU Select this past weekend at Oaks Christian, had a big sophomore season throwing for 2,844 yards and 33 touchdowns.
Notre Dame is something to seriously consider but Dawkins said since it's still so early he's not going to rush a decision.
"I had no communication with them," Dawkins said. "They came to our practice and they hadn't said a word to me yet. I haven't met one coach from there yet.
"They came out there and talked to my coach and (offensive coordinator Chuck Martin) gave my coach his card and he gave it to me because he can't call me yet. I called and he told me everything about the school and the program. He said I was the first quarterback they offered in my class. I was really excited.
"I have no favorites right now. I'm going to wait and see what I can get from the schools that offer. I'll figure it out from there. I'll probably commit senior year."
Alabama, USC and UCLA continue to show interest in Dawkins, who was expected to camp at San Diego State on Sunday and then he'll be at USC this weekend.
