Dawgs on top for in-state running back target

THE LATEST: If you follow Georgia High School football, heck, even high school football in general, you likely know about Colquitt County in Moultrie. They win championships, they have this new indoor facility bigger than some colleges have, they are led by the living legend of high school football Rush Propst and they always have talent.

One of their top prospects regardless of class is running back Daijun Edwards. The 5-foot-11, 205 pound sophomore running back had over 1,000 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns in 2017 despite playing through injuries and sharing the ball with two other backs in a spread offense.

Edwards already has offers from Auburn, Georgia, Penn State and Tennessee with many more to come. He is on track to be one of the top prospects in the Peach State fort 2020 and Kirby Smart and the staff at Georgia have already gone to work on this one.

They had Edwards in Athens over the weekend.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "During this visit to Georgia, we walked around the facility, we met with the coaches, we did a photo shoot and I had a good time up there" said Edwards.

"I spent the most time with coach [Dell] McGee (running backs) and he talked to me about the school and what they look for in a running back. He told me that he likes my physicality, how I catch the ball, my pass protection and my versatility.

"I spent time with coach Smart too, but we didn't really talk much football. We talked more about getting an education from Georgia.

"I feel like I am at home when I am at Georgia. Everyone is welcoming and I like the way they use their backs. I feel like Georgia is the best for me at this time and they are my top school right now."

RIVALS REACTION: This race is far from over, but Edwards grew up a Georgia fan and the Bulldogs have the early lead. He likes the staff and two of his favorite players are Sony Michel and Todd Gurley. Auburn will have him on campus this weekend and Edwards is going to add offers and visit many more schools, so he is one to track moving forward. He is a true SEC-type of back who is strong and runs with authority, so expect his offer list to grow in the coming months.
