Davis talks Maryland official visit

Class of 2015 four-star receiver Ryan Davis of St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood spent last weekend at Maryland with the nation's top prospect Byron Cowart, as the two enjoyed an official visit for the Terrapins' game against West Virginia.
For Davis, it was his second time visiting the school. He and Cowart arrived Saturday morning and left Sunday evening, staying at a hotel on campus.

"It was very fun," the 5-foot-10, 161-pound Davis said. "I got to see the atmosphere of Maryland. Got to know the coaches better, learned about my major if I were to go there, saw the buildings, learned about the academics. I talked to coach Edsall and the staff. I hung out a lot with Stefon Diggs and Deon Long - they were our hosts. We just chilled with them and got a feel for the place."
Davis knew Diggs and Long - two receivers who came to Maryland as highly-touted recruits from the D.C. area - from his previous visit to Maryland during summer.
"We get along well," Davis said. "We have a great relationship and we text every so often. (This weekend) they said they need more playmakers, so that I should come and play alongside them. They said I'd be a great fit and were kind of preaching to me from that point of view.
"They said if I come to Maryland, I can help change the culture and bring a championship to the school instead of if I went to somewhere like Florida State where the culture has already been built."
Davis said he was told by assistants Mike Locksley and Keenan McCardell that the Terrapins need more depth at wide receiver and especially have a need for another dynamic receiver once senior Long and junior Diggs graduate.
Davis said he was told playing time right away was a strong possibility. Based on his summer visit when he worked out for the Terrapins, he was told he could fit in the offense at slot or on the outside.
"They said once (Diggs and Long) leave they'll be limited at receiver," Davis said. "They said I can come in and be an All-American."
Everything that Davis heard, saw and experienced while in College Park seemed to have resonated in a positive manner for him.
"I could see myself going there," he said. "The way I see it, for a kid from Florida, people don't understand how nice it is at Maryland until you visit. I love the place, I love the culture - everything about it."
Davis said he's not sure of how the rest of his official visits schedule will play out, but that most likely he'll take his alongside Cowart. He said they will both be at Florida State for the Seminoles' game against Clemson this weekend - along with Saivion Smith - for an unofficial visit.
Other schools Davis said remain in the recruiting mix along with Maryland include Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Missouri.
"I'm really liking Missouri," he said.
Davis said growing up, he was a fan of Florida State, Miami and USC.
Davis is the nation's No. 25-ranked wide receiver and No. 34-overall player in the state of Florida.
