Fort Worth (Texas) Dunbar athlete D.J. Davis has had several phone calls already in September. One of them led to lining up his first official visit and he will head that direction next month.

“I had 11 schools call on Monday alone,” the 5-foot-11, 182-pound Davis said. “Then several more today. Penn State was one of the schools yesterday, and I set up my official visit with them.”
The four-star rated athlete will travel to State College, Pa. Oct. 3 for the Nittany Lions’ game against Wisconsin.
“I’m going to visit them officially that weekend,” he said. “My parents and I will go up there so we can get a good look at the school and the program. That way we will be able to have a good idea of what to look at when we visit other schools.”
Texas A&M was the first school to call the No. 8 rated athlete in America.
“Texas A&M was first to call,” he said. “They are the only school in the state I would consider going to. No real reason for that, but that is just the way I feel.”
Other schools that called Davis were Michigan, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and North Carolina.
“Those are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head,” he said. “There were others, but that’s all I can think of right now.”
Davis opened his senior season last week with a 49-0 loss to Brownwood and Miami, Fla. quarterback commitment Kirby Freeman.
“They were all seniors,” Davis said. “We are a young team. Last year we had a lot of seniors. Their defense was very very good. And the offense keeps clicking with the different options they have, beginning with Freeman.”
Davis opened up his final season of high school football with a 25 tackle performance from his free safety position.
