Daniels sees nationwide attention

Scholarship offers have been pouring in for Rivals100 defensive tackle Chris Daniels over the last few months, and the Euless (Texas) Trinity standout has also made his way to a few junior days.
His first Junior Day visit was to Baylor.

"I got an offer from them about a week before I went and they made me feel right at home," Daniels said. "I was impressed by a few things they told me. They showed the highlight video and I talked to the head coach, defensive coordinator, and the d-line coach. It was a pretty good journey that day.
"They said I can play any position on the d-line and they said they could use me my freshman year. They said they really need me to be a part of the team and I have a fighting chance to start as a freshman."
Next was a stop at SMU. It was not a Junior Day, but it was certainly a special trip.
"I didn't go to Junior Day at SMU. They had Chris Day as they called it," Daniels said. "I talked with the head coach. He really really impressed me with what he was saying. He was saying a lot of things I had not heard other coaches say.
"He was telling me there were 1460 days in four years and out of those 60 days are game days and what am I doing with the other 1400 days. He said to surround yourself with good people because he was trying to say it's not just about football. It's not a 4 to 5 year decision, it's a 40 to 50 year decision. I was really looking into it. I was really, really impressed with that."
His most recent stop was in Norman, Okla., to check out Oklahoma.
"I really liked OU. Coach Bob Stoops called me into his office in the middle of Junior Day," Daniels said. "I talked to him for about 15 minutes and he answered a lot of questions me and my dad had to ask. He really impressed me with what he was saying. I like the fact he has all the victories and how many championships he has won. He's really a legend."
Next is a stop at TCU February 21 and in a couple of weeks he plans to visit Texas. The schedule continues with planned visits to Kansas, Arkansas, and Colorado State.
The offers continue to roll in and one of his most recent arrived from the Michigan Wolverines.
"First of all I always liked Michigan. Since I was little I always watched them, I always wanted to be a little Wolverine," Daniels said. "You know how you have that dream school you want to go to when you're a kid and you love watching? Well, Michigan was that.
"Last year the defensive line coach said he was going to offer me if everything goes good with me. He said one day he was sending letters out to the top recruits in the nation and I was the No. 1 on the list. He said nothing was holding them back anymore. I talked to the defensive coordinator and he said he really liked my highlights and how I am on the field. He said I have a good shot at starting too. He said he needs dominant players who can play any position on the d-line."
There was a time early in the recruiting process when Daniels had a few favorites and leaders, but with so much happening at this time, he is now taking a more measured approach.
"Right now I'm not trying to commit yet or have any top schools," Daniels said. "I'll release my top 10 later. Right now I'm committed to my high school."
Daniels is currently ranked No. 70 in the Rivals100.
