Jacob Daniel likes what coach Chris Petersen did from afar, but the 2015 four-star defensive tackle doesn't know the new Washington coach well.
The Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North standout said he's been impressed by Petersen's success at Boise State, and now that he's the new coach of the Huskies he needs to learn much more about him as his recruitment continues.
"I really like what he did at Boise State," Daniel said. "Growing up I was a pretty big Boise State fan. I wasn't much of a Fresno State fan. I always liked it when they beat them, but now I like Fresno State.
"I don't know. I don't really know the guy. I'm pretty sure he'll be a good hire and then we'll go from there. I really love UW. I really love the school and I want to go there, so I'm pretty open-minded with the whole coaching situation."
One of the big aspects Daniel needs to consider is whether assistant coach Tosh Lupoi is retained or if he lands somewhere else - possibly USC with former Washington coach Steve Sarkisian.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound four-star said he has developed a great relationship with Lupoi, and where he coaches could play a factor in his decision.
"It is a major concern," Daniel said. "That was part of the deal committing there. I really like the school, I really like the environment and I really wanted to play for Coach Lupoi, Coach Sarkisian and coach (Justin) Wilcox.
"I really like Coach Lupoi and I know him really well. When I was up at camp, he really helped me out and gave me some tips that helped me this season. I'm pretty sure I'll be looking at Washington, but I'm also going to be looking to where he goes."
Daniel has an extensive offer list. Washington, Cal, Colorado, Fresno State, Hawaii, Houston, Iowa, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, Washington State and Wisconsin have already offered.
