Jacob Daniel took an unofficial visit to Cal last weekend and that's not incredibly newsworthy but the 2015 defensive tackle brought his mother and parental consent is always an important part of the recruiting process.
The Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North standout - who's gearing up for a showdown with Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco on Friday night - said he brought his mom so she could see why he likes the Golden Bears so much and to see what she thinks of defensive tackles coach Barry Sacks.
"We basically just went to the game and I went with my mom and we talked to coach Sacks and I wanted to show her why I liked Cal," Daniel said. "I really liked it there.
"The offense moves really fast. That was the first thing I noticed and the defense looked pretty good, too. I could tell in years to come they're going to be a pretty good team."
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound high four-star prospect said Sacks handled the recruiting process two ways this past weekend.
Daniel said Sacks talked to him at times about playing for Cal and giving the recruiting pitch but the coach also gave the 2015 standout some space to soak in the atmosphere and just get a feel for what it would be like to play there.
Cal is clearly a school Daniel likes a lot.
"They really made an impression on me," Daniel said. "I love Cal. I love it."
No other unofficial visits are planned but Daniel said trips always pop up and he's always open to seeing other programs.
So far, Daniel has been offered by Cal, Colorado, Fresno State, Hawaii, Houston, Iowa, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon State, San Diego State, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin. He's still hearing from USC, Oregon and others.
