Dallas DE makes surprise pledge

After going for weeks without being excited about the recruiting process, Dallas Carter strongside defensive end Ryan Johnson surprised the recruiting world with news of a commitment.
“I orally committed to Tulane this week,” Johnson, a three-star strongside defensive end that is 6-foot-5 and 240 pound, said. “I know that I can go down there to Tulane and play right away. That’s something I wanted to get out of a school.”

However, Johnson, ranked as the nation’s No. 38 strongside d-end by Rivals.com, said he is planning on taking a few other visits despite the commitment.
“I’m going to visit Arizona on January 9, Tulane on January 16 and then Baylor on January 23,” Johnson said. “But I’m committed to Tulane. I don’t think I’m going to really change my mind. I’m just going to take my visits for fun and be sure about my decision.”
Johnson is also one of the state’s top basketball prospects. Through 14 games, Johnson is averaging nine points and 10 rebounds.
