Dallas athlete holds seven offers

Dallas (Texas) Carter was one of the more talented teams in the state of Texas in the 2008 season. The Cowboys finished the season with an 11-1 record and an appearance in the second round of the playoffs. All of their success was accomplished without having a true quarterback though they did have a phenomenal athlete holding the reins of their run-heavy offense.
Jarvis Phillips knows he isn't a quarterback at the next level but his abilities with the ball in his hands for Carter is what caught the eyes of several coaches and earned him seven scholarship offers to date.

"I played a pretty good season," Phillips said. "It could've been a little better if we had kept on winning but it was pretty much what I wanted out of my senior season. It wasn't that tough (playing quarterback as an athlete) because in high school really you just try to make plays. We weren't really a throwing team and I had to hit them when they were open but I didn't have to thread the needle."
Phillips rushed for just under 900 yards from his quarterback position and he threw for over 900 as well. His efforts earned the respect of numerous college coaches.
"I have seven offers," he said. "I have offers from Kansas, Colorado State, Iowa State, Tulsa, North Texas, Rice, Louisiana Tech and I think that's it. A couple of them are recruiting me as a slot receiver and I've got a couple of them recruiting me as a cornerback."
For his part, Phillips doesn't have a preference where he plays at the next level, though he has grown fond of having the ball in his hands.
"It really doesn't matter," he said. "I just want to make plays. I would like to have the ball in my hands but it wouldn't be a big deal if I don't."
Currently, Phillips has one team on top.
"Right now Kansas is my number one but I think I'm really going to wait to commit," he said. "I visited the campus and it was a pretty nice campus and I like the environment."
Now that his season is over, Phillips hopes to divert his attention towards recruiting and intends on taking some official visits. He also doesn't plan on making any rash decisions.
"I want to see who all is interested in me and what they have to offer also," he said. "I don't want to jump on another team too quickly."
