12 names to know from Mike Vick's V7 Playmakers ATL Camp

ATLANTA — Former NFL quarterback Mike Vick brought his V7 Elite Playmakers Showcase series to his old stomping grounds Sunday, where several top prospects turned out for the event. Here are the 12 performers that caught our attention at the event.

Recruiting Wrap: Sims is committed to Michigan.

Performance: Sims showed up at the camp looking to impress, leading the way during drills and then shutting down wide receivers when it came time for one-on-ones. Sims lined up against the event's best wide receivers and more than held his own, showing why he's one of the nation's top defensive backs.

Recruiting Wrap: Texas, South Carolina and Georgia are among the schools in the mix for Dean.

Performance: Dean is a safety at the next level but he showed that he has the coverage skills to go man-to-man when needed. He's physical at the line of scrimmage but is also fluid enough to turn and cover downfield against most receivers he faces.

Recruiting Wrap: Campbell has offers from Louisville, Memphis, Cincinnati and others.

Performance: Campbell is ranked as an athlete by Rivals.com because he started his career as a wide receiver but has since switched to defense. On Sunday he showed that his work on defense is paying off, as he flashed impressive physicality and coverage skills. If Campbell can continue to improve he'll find himself at a Power Five school next year.

Recruiting Wrap: Kimbrough has early offers from Georgia, Kansas, Oregon State and Tulane.

Performance: Kimbrough already has the attention of several Power Five programs and he showed why on Sunday. He's a solidly built cornerback who fared well against shifty slot wide receivers and also held his own against taller outside receivers. New Orleans is known for producing defensive backs, and Kimbrough looks like he could be the next big one to come out of the city.

Recruiting Wrap: Ford holds offers from West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State and several others.

Performance: Ford is a shifty slot receiver who flashed his trademark ability to get open and consistently make catches. The only thing that really slowed him down on Sunday was errant throws from the event's quarterbacks. With his skill set it's easy to see why schools with spread offenses see him as perfect fit.

Recruiting Wrap: Ford is waiting on his first offer.

Performance: The younger brother of Christian and the son of former Georgia defensive back Glenn Ford, Jordan showed that he has a lot of his father's abilities with his showing on Sunday. Ford is a very physical defensive back whose jams at the line didn't go over well with some of the event's wide receivers. Even when he didn't jam at the line, Ford impressed with his coverage skills downfield.

Recruiting Wrap: Smith is committed to Georgia.

Performance: Smith impressed with his ability to be physical at the line and keep pace with receivers down field. He showed a nice ability to know when to gamble without getting burned, a sign that his football instincts are also an important part of why he's a top prospect.

Recruiting Wrap: Robertson is waiting on his first offer.

Performance: Robertson was effective playing both press coverage at the line and playing off, keeping opposing receivers on their toes during one-on-ones. Robertson has good height and length and looks the part of a future FBS player.

Recruiting Wrap: Harris is committed to Kansas.

Performance: Harris was a little late to arrive thanks to traffic on the way to Atlanta but once he got on the field he quickly asserted himself. Harris worked out at both cornerback and wide receiver and impressed with his abilities at both positions, earning one of the camp's MVP awards for his efforts.

Recruiting Wrap: Jason is committed to Kansas.

Performance: Jason's day was cut short after he was poked in the eye but before he went out with the injury he showed why he was the top-ranked player at the event. Jason is great at using his size and body control to go up and make tough catches, a skill he showed off on Sunday.

Recruiting Wrap: Brawner is waiting on his first offer.

Performance: Brawner is very impressive on the hoof and he backed it up with a quality showing at the event. He has good quickness and solid hands and looks the part of a sleeper who will end up with an FBS home before it's all said and done.

Recruiting Wrap: Gainwell's most notable offer to date is from Memphis.

Performance: Gainwell impressed with his ability to get open and his quick feet that made him a match up problem for defensive backs. His low center of gravity allows him to make quick moves without losing much speed, something that helped him consistently get open and make catches.

Others who caught our eye

Among the other participants who caught our eye was 2020 offensive lineman Brady Ward. The 6-foot-6, 295-pound prospect is rare, but has the type of frame that college coaches love to work with... On the defensive line, 2019 defensive end Bryce Nelms was far and away the most impressive pass rusher... Much like Gainwell, class of 2018 wide receiver Mykel Tubbs was very impressive getting open and consistently making catches. He too is waiting on his first offer... Class of 2019 Alabama defensive back Trikweze Bridges looks the part of a future national-level recruit. He already holds offers from Alabama, Florida and Kentucky, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the rest of the SEC join in the coming months... Class of 2019 Georgia wide receiver Rekevian Mathis was very impressive and nearly impossible for defensive backs to cover. He's small but electric with the ball in his hands... One of the most impressive young players in attendance was class of 2020 defensive back Kevon Angry. Despite being just a rising sophomore he went toe-to-toe with several of the camp's best wide receivers and did a nice job of winning his share of the battles... Class of 2019 Buford, Ga. quarterback Clayton Nelson was one of the day's best, showing excellent arm strength throughout the event.
