Cy-Creek surprising with wins, prospects

One of the biggest stories in the city of Houston this football season has been the Cypress Creek Cougars, who stand atop one of the tougher districts in the state.
The Cougar offense has been lighting it up under the lights and a lot has to do with their talented offensive lineman Da'Marcus Baymon.

The 6-foot-3, 330-pound tackle is the second-ranked student in his class and has Division I football ability to boot.
"He's a college guard or defensive tackle," coach Greg McCaig said. "He works so hard and makes it so easy to coach. Our kids follow Da'Marcus and our quarterback Austin Pugliese. They are leaders and do it by example."
Schools showing interest in the under-recruited big man are Alabama, Stanford, Rice and Notre Dame.
While Baymon is the anchor, junior tackles Cameron Fleming (6-5/260) and Archie Muniz (6-5/225) will receive some attention after finishing their junior seasons.
"We are pretty big up front and get to move some people around," McCaig said. "The juniors should get some looks this spring. They have the frame to put on some more weight."
Also deserving a look this recruiting season is Evan Floyd, who has stepped up at defensive end for the Cougars. Floyd is a 6-3, 240-pound tight end/defensive end-hybrid.
"He can fit in somewhere," McCaig said. "He is very versatile and could be an H-Back in someone's system."
The future is set for the Cougars also as long as sophomore Jermichael Selders is at running back. The potential Newcomer of the Year in the district will rush for over 1,000 yards this year.
"I don't mind handing it off and watching him go," Pugliese said. "He's a good one."
