Syracuse picked up commitment number 12 on Sunday evening. Three-star wide receiver Jamal Custis from Philadelphia (Pa.) Neumann-Goretti decided to pull the trigger.
"I felt like it was a good opportunity for me," said the 6-foot-6, 210-pound Custis. "I visited Syracuse about a month ago and I felt welcome talking to a lot of the coaches. I loved the camps.
"Coach Shaffer is a really down to earth, genuine guy that cares for all of his players," he said. "I also have the opportunity to play early. They want me to step in and help the offense early. They said they would move me around the field to make plays and cause match up problems."

Having a position coach with NFL experience was key for Custis.
"I think it's great to be coached by Coach Moore, a guy who played himself and was great in the NFL," Custis said. "I felt it gave me the opportunity to get better at the next level. There aren't a lot of coaches that did what he did so why not learn from somebody who already did it."
Three other teams were in it until the end.
"I was basically down to Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia and Syracuse," he said. "I just felt more comfortable and welcome at Syracuse. I liked the other school but I liked the opportunity to play early at Syracuse and what they were going to do with me."
Custis wants to take his official visit to Syracuse some time this fall.
