Cumbie expected in South Bend today

Morris (Ill.) junior defensive end prospect Jamie Cumbie (6-foot-7, 255 pounds) will take advantage of a slight break in his busy spring baseball season on Monday.
"I don't have a baseball game scheduled today (Monday) so I'm heading to Notre Dame for an unofficial visit," Cumbie said. "I'm heading over to South Bend with my coach (Dan Darlington) and both Alex (Perry) and Dane (Zumbahlen). I'm looking forward to checking out the campus and the facilities at Notre Dame and also talking with the coaches. The last time I was at Notre Dame I really didn't get to see much of the campus."

Cumbie has remained busy on the baseball diamond this spring.
"Things have been going pretty well. We're 12-4 so far this season and we have a three game series later this week against Lemont. I'm 3-1 as a pitcher and I also was able to beat Minooka last week on the mound with a complete game. I also hit a 3-run homer in the same game, and that was a good game for me especially against Minooka. Minooka's got a great team this year and they are our main rival."
Cumbie has continued to draw steady recruiting interest and mail this spring.
"The mail is still coming in pretty well. I'm still getting hand-written letters daily from most of the same schools. I still have offers from Illinois, Notre Dame, Clemson, Purdue and Northwestern. Several schools have invited me to spring games, but my baseball schedule is really busy and other than the Notre Dame unofficial visit I'm not planning too many other visits this spring."
Cumbie also has a time frame in mind when he'll most likely make his final college choice.
"I really don't think that I'm going to drag it out. I'm looking at making my final college decision before the start of my senior season. I want to be able to totally focus on my senior season and to have all of the recruiting stuff in the rear view mirror before the season starts."
