Cumber generating interest

Christian Cumber was busy this summer camping with three out-of-state programs as well as competing at the All-Poly event in Utah, and the three-star defensive back is optimistic that all the mileage could pay off soon.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound prospect from Denver (Colo.) Mullen competed at Minnesota, Nebraska and UCLA, and is set to visit Colorado State this coming weekend when the Gophers are in town. Cumber said he might also hit the road to see Minnesota take on Michigan in late October and there could be a return trip to check out the Cornhuskers in person, too.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Cumber heard from a number of schools last week when the contact lines opened for recruits in the 2017 class, including Arizona State, Colorado, Indiana, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State and Washington State. A few coaches have told him they hope to see film from his first three or four games of the season.
IN HIS WORDS: "I've got some coaches checking in on me, having casual conversations and seeing how I'm doing," Cumber told Rivals.com. "When I see Minnesota I just want to see how the players interact and what their enthusiasm as a team looks like. I've been to Nebraska too and I hope to get a feel for everything, and see that stadium packed and how loud it gets. I want to be a part of that atmosphere. I'm also planning on making it to CU and CSU games for sure, just depending on how I can fit stuff into my schedule."
RIVALS' REACTION: Cumber was one of the top performers at UCLA's camp this summer, moving well in defensive back drills and keeping up in coverage. He moved back to corner from safety for his season opener last week and looked very comfortable pressing receivers at the line of scrimmage. Like many of his teammates at Mullen that have already picked up offers from Colorado and Colorado State, Cumber looks like a priority recruit for the in-state schools in the 2017 class, though other coaches are certainly monitoring the progress and could make it difficult to keep him home.
