Four-star safety Chris Culliver will be representing North Carolina in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 6-foot, 188-pounder is excited about the opportunity to play in the game.
"I think it's a great honor to be nominated for this," he said. "It means a lot to me being presented this opportunity to represent the East. There are only so many people selected in the country, and I'm lucky enough to get picked.
"I never thought I'd get a chance to play in a game like this. I was just working hard and I'm proof that it gets you to good places. I think I accomplished a lot of things in football, and now I'm basically being rewarded for that."
The Garner, N.C. prospect expects to prove his status against the elite players in the country in the all-star game.
"I want to show myself like every other player," he said. "I know I'm in the Rivals100 and there are lots of kids that want to be there. I want to prove that I should be rated that high or ever better. I think I'm better than that, and I want to show everybody that I've got football skills.
"I know some people doubt me, even in the area. This gives me a chance to go against some of the best players in the country and try to shut them down. I'm going to show that I'm one of the best corners or safeties out there. I also hope to play a little return man, too - if they'll let me."
On the recruiting front, Culliver is down to three schools: Clemson, South Carolina and Florida.
This season he has registered 140 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions while helping lead Garner to the playoffs.
