Cruz interested in the Heels

Tight end/defensive end Jose Cruz has three offers on the table and is interested in several schools. But Coach John Bunting and North Carolina may be the school to beat for Cruz.
"I was up at Boston College recently and they pulled my scholarship," said Cruz. "I guess they got a commitment or two and wanted to have space at some position where they really needed it. I understand it, I mean, that's how it is with recruiting. I'll just take it in stride. I still have offers from UNC, Akron and Indiana, and I think I'll get more eventually."

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end/defensive end from Johnstown (Pa.) Bishop McCort runs the 40-yard dash in 4.85 seconds. He's especially interested in three schools, but one may stand out above the rest.
"I really like North Carolina," said Cruz. "They've got just about everything a recruit is looking for. Playing time, facilities, a great college environment and academics. I'm also looking pretty hard at Penn State and West Virginia, but those two haven't offered yet."
Cruz has been as busy as anyone this summer, camping at Penn State, West Virginia, Akron, Indiana, Boston College, Pitt and Marshall. When would he like to make his decision?
"I'd like to make my decision before my senior season begins," he said. "That's what a lot of people would like me to do I think. I have three choices now, but if I start to think that more offers might be on the way then I might wait and see what's coming. But like I said, for now I want to decide before my senior season."
Cruz is a three-sport athlete at Bishop McCort, playing football, basketball and track. He was second team all-league on the gridiron as a junior.
