Cruz discusses visits

Three-star tight end Mike Cruz out of Johnstown (Pa.) Bishop McCort is beginning to narrow his choices further and even look at official visits. The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder believes he knows three schools for sure that'll receive officials from him sometime this season.
"As of right now, I know I want to take all five of my officials, but there are only three for certain that I'll go to," he said. "I believe those are Clemson, Florida State and Illinois.

"I picked Clemson and Florida State because they are down south. I like the heat. I also like the reputation at those schools and when I went on my unofficial to Clemson, it was beautiful down there. I wasn't able to take an unofficial to Florida State, so I'll have to wait for the official.
"With Illinois, I like their coaching staff. They are real great people and my recruiter is an awesome guy. I have a great relationship with him. I like the fact they are known for playing freshmen too."
At this time, Cruz hasn't scheduled any visits.
"I still have to work on those," he said. "I'll probably do it towards the middle or end of the season."
Of course, the No. 27 tight end in the country mentioned he wanted to take five officials. Does he know who is in the running for the other two spots?
"Not at all. I have no idea who else is being considered," he said. "I do like Pittsburgh a lot and they are very much in the mix. I don't know if that'll be an official or just an unofficial visit since they are real close by. They are definitely in my overall list and I'll be there a lot for games this season.
"I like them because a bunch of people from my area go there and it is close. The coaching staff is unbelievable also."
On the football front, Cruz is prepared to kickoff the season on Friday night.
"We've had some scrimmages and did well our team is quick and fast," he said. "I'm getting back into it as far as my strength and mobility. I'm 100% following knee surgery and just getting used to it again. It's just not used to being tackled, but I'm adjusting to that."
