Crestwood is loaded on defense

Sumter (S.C.) Crestwood features a number of talent in the 2010 recruiting class. Cornerback Mike Portee is just one of a handful of prospects to watch according to head coach Keith Crolley.
One to keep an eye on is 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker Darius Wallace.

"He's a hybrid guy and had 23 sacks last year," he said. "He can fly and runs very well. He is a good player for us.
"The big thing about him is his speed. He's a quick cat and can play with his hand down. He's strong enough to play tight end as well. He was our region's defensive player of the year last season."
Colleges are taking notice of his big season.
"He's getting mail from everybody," he said. "People are still evaluating, but Maryland likes him as do a lot of schools in the ACC and SEC."
Another linebacker to watch is 6-foot-1, 208-pounder, Travis Jenkins.
"He is a talented weight lifter, ranked third or fourth in the state in his weight class," he said. "Defensively he has gotten a lot bigger and can run. He's very quick as well.
"He's getting a lot of similar interest as Darius."
Rounding out the group is a 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive tackle, Travis McConico.
"He's real quick off the ball, extremely quick," Crolley said. "We're looking for big things from him.
"His first step, he is as quick as anybody you've seen. He's a good player and is learning his way through the weight room. He is getting stronger too."
