Crawford makes the switch

A couple months ago, Chestnut Hill (Pa.) Chestnut Hill Academy defensive tackle Wayne Crawford committed to Boston College. After the Tom O'Brien's departure from Chestnut Hill, the 6-foot-3, 275-pounder's future was uncertain. Today, Crawford made things much clearer by committing to North Carolina State after an official this weekend.
"I had a good visit," he said. "I basically toured around the area of Raleigh, looked at the academics and athletics. I also liked the potential of the program as a whole. Now they have the right coaching staff and facilities in place to be competitive and that is what made me make the change."

Crawford committed to the Wolfpack earlier today.
"I committed to Tom O'Brien and coach Swepson," he said. "They were very happy and it was kind of funny because I got offered and committed to the same coach twice."
What made the two-star lineman head to Raleigh?
"He provided me the opportunity to go somewhere I'm wanted," he said. "The thing that really convinced me was that I could go to school in July instead of possible greyshirting, which was what Boston College had been mentioning.
"Aside from that, it's a great environment and I know a lot of people say it isn't as good of a school, but it's excellent for what I want to study, environmental science. I also like the fact my mother and father's side are from the Carolina area."
Of course, the fact that O'Brien is at North Carolina State was a big factor too.
"It was a very big factor for me," he said. "For me, they are no different than Boston College because they have the same staff and philosophy."
As far as playing time, Crawford isn't sure when he'll see the field.
"Since it's a new staff everybody is going to be given a clean slate," he said. "I don't mind playing or redshirting. I'm just going to work as hard as I possibly can and if I'm the best I'll play."
