It looks as if Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian quarterback Ben Craft may be close to getting his first offer.
According to Craft, Southern Miss has informed his quarterback coach it is extremely high on the 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior signal caller.
"My coach said the official offer will come when they meet me," Craft said. "They told him I was a high priority for them to sign. I'm high on their board. It was real exciting [to hear that]. That's great news."
As a junior, Craft completed 182 of 315 passes for 2,433 yards and 20 TDs with eight interceptions. He also rushed for 495 yards and 17 touchdowns on 147 attempts while leading his team to a runner-up finish in the Class 5A playoffs.
Craft was named Shelby County Player of the Year by the Birmingham News.
Besides Southern Miss, Craft, a pro-style quarterback, also is hearing from programs such as Mississippi State and UAB. He already has attended junior day with the Blazers, and will check out Mississippi State this weekend.
"You know, I was a little bit surprised by Southern Miss," Craft said. "I haven't heard much from them. A few things here and there, but nothing real hard and heavy. They told my coach they were going to come down this spring and meet, and probably offer me after that. They just want to see me and see my personality."
