Cowboys still an option for Palmer

DALLAS – Among the state of Oklahoma prospects who made the trip down to Dallas for the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas was Westmoore’s James Palmer. The three-star tight end picked up his first scholarship offer early from Oklahoma State and remains in regular contact with the Cowboys.

“Everything is good, everything is cool,” Palmer said. “They told me anytime I am ready, (the scholarship) is mine.”

Palmer feels his current recruiting trajectory should yield more offers, and he does not plan to announce a decision until National Signing Day.

The schools that have most recently offered him are Stephen F. Austin, Colorado State and Arkansas State. He is also hearing from Miami, Texas, SMU, Arkansas and USC and recently visited Houston.

“I went to Houston and I really enjoyed it,” Palmer said. “Coach (James) Casey is really nice and I really enjoyed the campus and the atmosphere. They just told me to stay in touch and I think an offer is coming up soon.”

At 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, Palmer is a unique tight end prospect and could be used in different ways depending on the scheme.

“As of right now, I think I am better in a flex position due to my hands,” Palmer said. “I think my blocking is good enough, but at the same time I think I am a match-up killer.”
