Cowboys are first offer for Whaley

Madisonville, Texas linebacker Alonzo Whaley had quite the junior season picking up all-state honors and now he can add his first scholarship offer to his list of accomplishments.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder made his way out to the NIKE Training Camp at Texas Christian University this past weekend and afterwards said that his first scholarship offer is now on the table from one Big 12 school.

"A couple of weeks ago, I got my first offer from Oklahoma State," Whaley said. "I'm talking to Oklahoma, Nebraska, Louisiana Tech, and some others."
The first offer definitely caught the Lone Star defender by surprise.
"They were showing some interest and they had talked about it," Whaley said. "They sent me some mail. Then they made their phone call to me and said they were going to offer."
Whaley says that he's not ready to name a favorite in the early stages of recruiting.
"No, no favorite," he said. "I'm open right now. I just want to play football."
The NIKE Training Camp also gave Whaley a chance to show off his defensive skills. He says that when it comes down to it, he's versatile enough to play a number of different spots.
"I feel like I can play any of the positions on defense," he said. "I love the challenge. This was good to be out here at the camp. It was a long, test of your athleticism. I feel like I did well though."
