Cougars closing in on commitment

Acting on a tip from Ruth Robbins from RealDawg.com, Rivals learned that the Washington State Cougars are inching there way to the committal of tight end/defensive end prospect Jacob McKinney (6-3, 233, 4.8) from Puyallup, Wash.
McKinney has seen his stock steadily rise with strong performances at both the Washington Husky and Washington State Cougar camps. He was even selected the MVP at the Cougar camp as a defensive end.

While at the camp McKinney benched 185 pounds 17 times and ran a 4.49 shuttle.
McKinney let Rivals.com know that he is 85% committed to the Cougars. He just wants to make sure that it isn’t the excitement of the camp and everything that went with it.
New Cougar head coach Bill Doba brought McKinney into his office after the camp and offered the talented athlete a scholarship.
“I was so excited when Coach (Bill) Doba offered me,” McKinney said. “I didn’t expect to be offered so soon.”
“I liked the whole coaching staff at Washington State,” McKinney said. “The whole coaching staff made me feel welcome the moment I arrived to the camp and they let me know how much they wanted me to become a Cougar.”
McKinney also stood out at the Washington Husky camp but an offer couldn’t be made because of the controversy surrounding the program.
McKinney has a solid bench of 295 and a squat of 450. He also recorded a 26-inch vertical jump at the Cougar camp.
As a junior McKinney was selected second-team all-league on both sides of the ball at tight end and linebacker.
Though McKinney is an outstanding linebacker on the high school level, he projects as a tight end or defensive end on the collegiate level.
Washington State has a huge lead at this time but Washington, Oregon, Oregon State and Montana are also recruiting McKinney hard.
