Cougars add Metroplex lineman

Allen, Texas, is home to some of the top talent in the Lone Star State. And one of its top prospects for the class of 2005 is heading to H-Town to play his college football.
Allen guard Jerrod Butler committed to Houston over the weekend, picking the Cougars over an offer from Colorado State.

“I’m a Cougar,” said Butler, who measured at 6-foot-1 and 330 pounds at the College Station NIKE Training Camp. “I just love the atmosphere down there. I love where the program is going. I was down there for the camp, and I just felt like it was the perfect situation.
“The coaches were really excited. They were saying I was their No. 1 choice.”
Butler, who can also play center, said Houston recruited him to play guard. He was a first-team all-district, all-count and second-team all-region pick as a junior.
