O'Fallon, Ill., three-star safety Micquell Cotton still has all five of his official visit slots open, but he may be close to scheduling the first of those trips.
"Iowa State came down to school [Tuesday] and they were talking about setting up an official soon," Cotton said. "The plan is, he wants me to come down in January for a visit, so that's when I'll be setting it."
Iowa State extended a scholarship offer to Cotton last spring, and he still is receiving strong interest from the Cyclones.
"They said they are highly interested to fill the roster at my position and my scholarship is still available if I want to make that choice to go to Iowa State," Cotton said.
Indiana and Syracuse join Iowa State on Cotton's offer list, but he is not as close to scheduling trips to those schools at this time.
"Lately I haven't heard from Indiana," Cotton said. "I'm not sure what is going on, but I haven't heard from my recruiting coach in about two weeks.
"I talked to Coach [DeAndre] Smith [at Syracuse] maybe a week and a half ago. They said I still hold a scholarship from them and they are still highly interested. They want me to come in on an official sometime in January."
In the meantime, new schools have come into the picture since the completion of Cotton's senior season.
"I actually was offered by Toledo maybe two or three weeks ago," Cotton said. "I am going to call down and talk to them about when they want me to come down on an official. That is something I will definitely look into."
The 5-foot-8, 173-pound Cotton missed half of his senior season with a knee injury, but came back for the second half and still made all-conference for a second straight year.
