Cottam still at four

Germantown (Tenn.) tight end Jeff Cottam is one of the top players in America at his position. He has freakish speed and athleticism for a man his size and has a number of impressive offers.
“Really not a lot has changed lately,” Cottam said. “I still have mostly the same offers. “North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Maryland, Louisville and Ole Miss have all offered me.”

The 6-foot-7, 250-pound Cottam ran an amazing 4.62 second 40-yard dash at the NIKE training camp in Atlanta. He also ran a 4.28 second shuttle, did 19 reps on the bench press and had a 28-inch vertical jump.
“We start two a days this week and I am pretty focused on that right now,” Cottam said. “I think we are going to have a pretty good team this year. The biggest thing we are still trying to figure out is who our quarterback is going to be.”
Cottam was a member of Germantown's Class 5A state championship team as a junior. He caught 14 passes for 160 yards and four touchdowns.
“Right now my top four is still the same as it has been,” Cottam said. “Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss and Notre Dame are the four schools that I am looking at the hardest. All of them have offered except for Notre Dame and they are showing me a lot of interest.”
He has a bench press of 310 pounds and a 395-pound squat. His brother Brad signed with Tennessee in 2003 and the Vols have a good chance to land the younger Cottam as well.
“I’m not sure which games I will be going to in the fall, but I know that I am going to go several,” Cottam said. "I know that I am going to be going to some Tennessee games to watch my brother. Ole Miss is not far from here so I will probably go to several of their games too. I would also like to go to games at Auburn and Notre Dame.”
