Conwell flips to Arizona

It has been a hectic couple of weeks for Pittsburgh (Pa.) Upper St. Clair linebacker Dakota Conwell. A long time Pittsburgh commitment, the pull from Arizona had been strong recently, and after an official visit out to Tucson, Conwell officially made the flip this afternoon.
"I actually made my decision yesterday when I told Coach Rich Rodriguez," said Conwell. "But I told him that I wanted to tell the Pittsburgh coaches first before really making it official."

Conwell was asked about the Pittsburgh staff's reaction this afternoon.
"They weren't very happy," said Conwell. "I told them how it was. They still want me to meet the new defensive coordinator. I think he might come by my school to meet me, so if I happen to see him I might talk to him, but I'm an Arizona guy, 100%."
What pushed Conwell over the top with his decision was his official visit to Arizona.
"Pretty much everything was great," said Conwell. "Everything I look for in a school they checked off. They have great coaching, a great defensive scheme, it's a college town and all the fans are really pro-Arizona, the campus was beautiful and they have my major."
While Arizona may have been relatively new into the picture, Conwell was already very familiar with several coaches.
"I've had a lot of interaction with the coaches during my whole recruiting process, both at West Virginia and Pittsburgh," said Conwell. "I think they'll get Arizona on the right track and we'll do big things out there."
One possible negative that Conwell is eager to overcome is the distance from home.
"I always had to think about that," said Conwell. "I like taking on new challenges and I'll make the best of the situation. The place is beautiful and I fell in love with it over the weekend."
