Like everywhere else in the country, Pac-12 schools had a busy June landing numerous commits throughout the month. Here is a look at how each school performed.
ARIZONA - Ten June commits
It was a busy month for Arizona as the Wildcats added 10 commitments and especially loaded up at defensive back, wide receiver and linebacker. Three-star defensive backs Xavier Bell, Malik Hausman and Scott Young can all play and Hausman could be a sleeper in this class because he’s proven to be super-talented yet under-recruited. Three-star receiver Warren Jackson is a 6-foot-5, long and lanky outside receiver who can stretch the field.
ARIZONA STATE - Five June commitments
The Sun Devils hit Texas hard with two commits this month from three-star running back Trelon Smith and three-star defensive back Ty Thomas. Arizona State also was productive locally – especially at Scottsdale Saguaro – as the trio of LB Kyle Soelle, TE Jared Poplawski and OL Corey Stephens joined the Sun Devils' class. Five of Arizona State’s seven commits came this month as the Sun Devils continue to load up with talented prospects.
CAL - Two June commitments
Cal landed its quarterback this month so even if the Golden Bears weren’t super active getting commitments they did get add a key piece to their 2017 class in Chase Garbers, who looked especially talented at the Steve Clarkson event this summer. Garbers might not be the highest-rated quarterback in the West, but he’s a talented, proven prospect who could be special at Cal. The Golden Bears also landed JUCO linebacker Da’Quan Patton.
COLORADO - Eight June commitments
Colorado had a really busy month as eight players committed including three-star receiver Maurice Bell, who could be a special player down the line. Three-star quarterback Tyler Lytle is also an exceptional pickup as he has the size and ability to be a big-time player. Texas was also fertile recruiting territory for the Buffaloes, who added two more players from that state in June to go with two earlier commits from the Lone Star State.
OREGON - Six June commitments
Six of Oregon’s eight commits came this month so it was especially active in Eugene led by four-star athlete Deommodore Lenoir, four-star offensive lineman Alex Forsyth and four-star linebacker Sampson Niu. Tight end Moses Robinson-Carr is an intriguing prospect. The three-star does not do a lot of events, but he is an excellent-looking recruit who could be special in Oregon’s spread offense. Three-star defensive tackle Rutger Reitmaier and JUCO OL John Vaka were also added.
OREGON STATE - Six June commitments
Half of Oregon State’s class was added in June as the camp season paid off big dividends for the Beavers. Two pledges were from the Pacific Northwest, two came from California and two – DB Justin Gardner and RB Isaiah Miller – are from the Southeast. One day before June started, Oregon State landed arguably its two biggest commits in this class when three-star linebacker David Morris and three-star wide receiver Kolby Taylor made their pledges.
STANFORD - Zero June commitments
Stanford's 2017 class will be a small one, and a good chunk of it has already been filled by six 2017 commitments and a pair of 2015 signees who are expected to return from LDS mission trips. The Cardinal now focus on a small group of top targets, and they're in good shape to sign several. The Cardinal's National Signing Day class should have plenty of quality, just not quantity.
UCLA - Two June commitments
The Bruins only have five commitments but, again, it’s quality over quantity for the Pac-12 team which added two more talented recruits to the class in June – and more could be coming. Three-star DB Jeffrey Manning has seen his recruitment absolutely blow up in recent months but he shut it down when he picked UCLA late in the month. Then a few days later, junior college offensive lineman Ronald Rudd committed. Earlier in the recruiting cycle five-star Jaelan Phillips and high four-star Hunter Echols picked the Bruins. They’re two of the best prospects in the state.
USC - Four June commitments
It was a busy month for USC as it landed two four-star linemen in Brett Neilon and Andrew Vorhees, and the Trojans didn’t stop there. Two-star DB C.J. Miller was impressive at Rising Stars Camp and he also committed. The latest pledge came from four-star tight end Erik Krommenhoek. The tight end position is absolutely loaded in the West this recruiting cycle and Krommenhoek is one of the best. A ton of offers went out this month so more commits could be coming soon.
UTAH - Two June commitments
Utah has only three pledges in the class. The good news is that two came this month from Texas in defensive backs Zyon McCollum and Tristin McCollum. The only other pledge in the Utes’ class up to this point is from Ephraim (Utah) Snow College defensive tackle John Penisini. The three-star prospect picked Utah over BYU and Utah State in March.
WASHINGTON - One June commitment
It was not a particularly busy month for the Huskies landing commitments, but they’re doing just fine since Washington landed many of its top targets in the winter and through the spring. In June, three-star quarterback Jake Haener picked the Huskies; even though he was not heavily recruited Haener has a whole lot of talent. JUCO kicker Joel Whitford also locked in his pledge this month.
WASHINGTON STATE - Three June commitments
Coach Mike Leach and his staff went to California, Texas and Florida for commits this month and it could pay off in a big way. Defensive tackle Lamonte McDougle, defensive back George Hicks and wide receiver Tyquez Hampton, all three-stars, made their pledges to Washington State this month. The Cougars loaded up in the previous few months as well as a strong recruiting class is coming together.
