Rivals250 linebacker Shayne Simon stays away from the spotlight but he will be in it early next week. That's when the Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep stand out will announce his commitment. Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and UCLA are Simon's finalists.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

"I've been talking to the coaches at Notre Dame," Simon said. "UCLA is still very interested and I've been talking to coach Scott and coach Bradley. I've been having great talks with coach Harbaugh, coach Brown, and coach Partridge from Michigan.

"I didn’t make it up to Penn State for the Lasch Bash," he said. "We've been in touch with the coaches but there isn't anything new.

"Ohio State coaches are telling me I should come join a loaded class," said Simon. "I'd be a different kind of linebacker compared to the guys they already have committed.

"All these schools have so many positive things," he said. "I've enjoyed my time being recruited by all of them. It's just going to comedown to my family and how we separate each one."

RIVALS' REACTION

Simon is a man of few words so reading too far into what he says can be tricky. Over the last month or so Notre Dame and Michigan have emerged as the favorites and the Fighting Irish could have the slight edge at this point. Skipping Friday Night Lights at Ohio State and the Lasch Bash at Penn State are telling and the distance to UCLA makes the Bruins seem like a long shot.
