West Virginia received a big boost in their 2023 recruiting class on Thursday when three-star defensive end Oryend Fisher gave his verbal pledge to the Mountaineers. Fisher took a spring visit to West Virginia and followed that up with an official to Morgantown in June. His verbal pledge is a big win for Neal Brown's squad as they add a talented defensive piece to their 2023 class and beat out schools like Kentucky, Louisville, and Vanderbilt in the process.

WHAT WEST VIRGINIA IS GETTING:

"Oryend has such a quick first step. He is on you before you know it. He has really worked on his pass rush moves the past two years and it has paid off. This year, he really killed it in the weight room during the offseason and it is definitely showing so far. College coaches really like his motor. A few of his sacks are on a quarterback rolling away, but he continues pursuing. A lot of coaches have talked about using him more as a hybrid outside linebacker/edge rusher and he has shown at multiple camps he is very able," - Great Crossing defensive line coach Russell Floyd.

MOUNTAINEERS CLASS AT A GLANCE:

Fisher becomes the 18th verbal commitment in a West Virginia class that currently ranks within the Top 30 nationally. At 6-foot-6, 205-pounds, Fisher brings length, athleticism, and a ton of skill as an outside edge rusher for the Mountaineers. The three-star is just scratching the surface of his abilities and is a great compliment to go along with defensive front pledges Corey McIntyre, Jr., James Heard, Justin Benton, Eamon Smalls and linebacker commits Ben Cutter and Josiah Trotter.
