Commitment Breakdown: Three-star 2022 DB Myles Oliver to Clemson

Clemson took another step towards completing their 2022 recruiting class on Sunday landing a commitment from Georgia three-star athlete Myles Oliver. Oliver is a late find along the recruiting trail out of Douglas County High School but one that can pay off in a big way the next four seasons.

WHAT THE TIGERS ARE GETTING

The Tigers are getting the ultimate versatile athlete in Oliver. Squaring off against 5A Georgia teams, Oliver was a difference maker on all three sides of the ball. When his Tigers squad held the ball, Oliver rushed 22 times for 220 yards with two touchdowns and he completed 83 percent of his passes connecting on 20-of-24 attempts covering 169 yards with one touchdown. On special teams, Oliver took seven kicks back 231 yards.

The spot where Oliver shinned brightest was on defense. Through 12 games, Oliver put an end to 75 plays, 55 solo, with five interceptions.

WHAT MAKES OLIVER DIFFERENT

The versatility on the field makes Oliver different from his peer group. Beyond playing in all three phases, Douglas County used him at safety and at corner depending on the offensive matchup week to week. Adding that Swiss Army Knife kind of talent to the roster gives Clemson options in the secondary.

There are speed demons for days on Clemson’s roster, but Oliver could be an early contributor on special teams with his speed.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR CLEMSON

Anytime a team can find an overlooked gem that fits their scheme, that is a win. The Tigers have addressed needs in their secondary in this cycle landing four-stars Sherrod Covil, Toriano Pride and Jeadyn Lukus, and now Oliver. Slated as a linebacker, Wade Woodaz is another potential candidate Clemson could use at safety if needed.
