Tennessee made a big addition to their impressive 2023 class on Wednesday with the commitment of Smyrna (Tenn.) linebacker Arion Carter. The Rivals250 prospect is coming off an official visit with the Vols a couple of weekends ago, a place he visited multiple times throughout the fall.
WHAT THE VOLUNTEERS ARE GETTING:
After originally committing to Memphis during the summer, Carter saw his recruiting process explode throughout the fall with impressive film and in return, numerous blue blood programs lined up with offers. Along with Tennessee, the four-star prospect had Ohio State and Alabama among his finalists to go along with over 30 offers from across the country.
Carter put together a tremendous senior campaign, earning Class 6A Mr. Football honors as a two-way player for his high school team. On defense, he tallied 58 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. He also served as the primary running back on offense, rushing for 673 yards and 13 touchdowns.
WHY IT'S BIG FOR TENNESSEE:
Tennessee grabs another top-level, in-state talent and the newly-minted No. 1 player in the Volunteer State for the 2023 class. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound prospect is a physical tackler that has excellent pass-rushing ability and can cover a lot of ground sideline-to-sideline with his speed and athleticism. Carter is a perfect compliment to go along with fellow in-state linebacker commit Caleb Herring, the No. 2 player in the state, and Georgia natives Jeremiah Telander and Jalen Smith.
