Commitment breakdown: Rutgers lands Moses Walker

Moses Walker
Moses Walker

Not much had been heard about linebacker Moses Walker during the pandemic. The Rivals250 prospect out of Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall Campus didn't get a chance to do some of the self-guided visits other prospects did, but he did take some visits in June, including to Rutgers and Penn State. Now, after carefully sorting through his options and taking all the visits he thought were necessary, Walker has announced his commitment to Rutgers.

WHAT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS ARE GETTING

Walker is a super-athletic linebacker that excels in coverage but has also become much stronger and can enforce his will when coming downhill to defend against the run. It will be very interesting to see how he handles the transition to the college level. Walker isn't used to the skill level he'll face on a weekly basis and he could face a steep learning curve while he's getting used to the game. In limited action this spring, Walker did a nice job showing off his range and newly acquired strength. His biggest asset continues to be his speed in the open field.

WHY IT'S BIG FOR RUTGERS

It's getting harder to come up with new things to say about how well Rutgers is recruiting right now. Greg Schiano and his staff continue to exceed expectations and get commitments from big-time players the Scarlet Knights haven't gotten in a very long time. Walker was seriously considering Penn State, but he stopped by Rutgers on his way home after his official visit and the writing was on the wall at that point. There are a few former Erasmus Hall players that play for Rutgers right now and it's important for the Scarlet Knights to keep that relationship strong because they consistently pump out major college prospects. Walker is now the third-highest ranked player committed to Rutgers and their second four-star linebacker.
