The Ole Miss coaching staff has put a big emphasis on defense in the 2022 recruiting cycle with the fruits of their labors coming through in the Early Signing Period. The hard work helped land one of their top targets swaying Rivals250 linebacker Jaron Willis away from Georgia Tech among others.
WHAT THE REBELS ARE GETTING
Jaron Willis is that no nonsense outside linebacker handing out headaches to running backs and quarterbacks. Lacing the cleats up with Lee County High School, Willis is a threat off the edge and a run blitz king. Beyond cleaning house in the box, he can also get out in space covering delivering the big hits on receivers, backs, and tight ends. Mississippi has picked up an all-purpose linebacker in Willis.
WHAT MAKES JARON WILLIS DIFFERENT
Willis is a thumper in the box knocking out mouth pieces. Shot out of a canon, off the edge his speed creates mismatches with offensive tackles forcing the quarterback out of the pocket or left taking a painful sack. Squaring off against 7A Georgia offenses, he is battled tested and ready to matriculate to SEC action.
WHY THIS IS BIG FOR MISSISSIPPI
We all know Lane Kiffin’s offense can hang with any team in the country. For the 10-2 seasons to become the undefeated campaigns overtaking the SEC West, the defense must get up to par with the offense. Acquiring the talents of four-star players like Willis will make the difference.
Landing Willis out of Georgia wooing him away from Georgia Tech may not sound like much to SEC fans, but Arkansas and Florida State were heavy in the mix down the stretch. Kudos to the Rebels’ coaching staff on getting this National Letter of Intent signed.
