Fantastic news came to Oklahoma a day before the Early Signing Period began when Rivals100 receiver Jayden Gibson made the Sooners his collegiate fit. The decision by the four-star Florida prospect is a big win for Oklahoma adding a key piece to their 2022 recruiting class. The announcement also sends a message to other lingering recruits that the Sooners will remain upper crust in the college football world.
WHAT THE SOONERS ARE GETTING
More than a deep ball threat, Gibson can take a simple screen pass from anywhere on the field finding the end zone. Lining up on the outside in West Orange High School’s offensive scheme, Gibson improved upon his junior season stat line when he had 32 receptions for 774 yards with nine scores in 10 games to 857 receiving yards off 56 receptions for 13 touchdowns in his Warriors’ 13-game season.
WHAT MAKES JAYDEN GIBSON DIFFERENT
Gibson is a full package receiver with size, speed, and hands. Listed at 6-foot, 5-inches, 190 pounds, he is a target any quarterback will look for on third downs or in the end zone to make a play against smaller defensive backs. With Gibson, ball placement does not have to in the breadbasket. Gibson’s wingspan and athleticism allows him to adjust for off-target passes and for high-pointing the ball.
WHY THIS IS BIG FOR OKLAHOMA
When Lincoln Riley left Norman for Los Angeles, there was the usual attrition of talent that started to look elsewhere over fear of the unknown. But when new head coach Brent Venables came onboard, not only has he and his staff done a great job of keeping the class together, but they are adding dynamic pieces like Gibson.
On Monday, Oklahoma headed into the Early Signing Period ranked 17th in the nation, watch them rise the team rankings board.
