Commitment Breakdown: Rivals100 2025 OL Carter Lowe picks Ohio State

Ohio State has stayed hot on the recruiting trail.

That’s because 2025 four-star offensive lineman Carter Lowe announced his commitment to the program on Saturday. Lowe picked the in-state Buckeyes over a final group that included Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Tennessee. Lowe is the seventh commitment of the 2025 class for coach Ryan Day’s program. He’s the first offensive lineman in the class.

WHAT THE BUCKEYES ARE GETTING

The Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer standout has great size standing at 6-foot-6, 290 pounds. There is plenty of room for him to add good weight and muscle mass after being in a college weight room which will only make him better. Lowe is very physical at the point of attack with a good initial punch.

What makes him an even better prospect is the potential for position versatility. He stars at tackle currently and could hold that spot down in college. However, he plays with confidence on plays that he pulls which suggests that he’d be able to slide inside to guard if needed for Ohio State. Lowe is more fluid as a run blocker than a pass protector but that will improve in college.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR OHIO STATE

Offensive line is a major need for the Buckeyes in the 2025 recruiting class. So, landing a Rivals100 prospect early in the cycle is very important for the program. Lowe is the top offensive line prospect in Ohio in the 2025 cycle so it shows the Buckeyes are prioritizing in-state talent which is important for them.

Lowe has been a top target for offensive line coach Justin Frye for the last year. Things really progressed when Lowe came to Columbus to work with Frye at an Ohio State one-day recruiting camp last June. That progressed into three separate game day visits during the 2023 season. Lowe and his family also visited campus for a Junior Day this month.

How the recruitment played out shows the Buckeyes’ ability to identify and close on a priority target at a position of need.
