Commitment breakdown: Oklahoma lands Rivals250 DL Derrick Moore

Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore

Derrick Moore has always been quiet about the inner workings of his recruitment. The Rivals250 defensive end out of Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances never really spoke much about his mindset throughout the process but he did get out on the road in June and that helped him figure out where he wanted to play at the next level. Moore made the trip to Norman for Oklahoma's ChampUBBQ recruiting event in June and that visit led to his commitment. Ohio State and Penn State were also serious contenders for Moore.

WHAT THE SOONERS ARE GETTING...

Moore is a stout defensive lineman that has a defensive end skill set but has the potential to move inside at the next level. He does a great job using his hands to knock offensive linemen off balance and plays with a good understanding of how to use leverage to his advantage. Moore is pretty quick off the line for a player his size and that's is real problem for many of the offensive linemen he's gone against. Moore has the frame to add significant mass to his frame in college and that could mean his moves inside and his quickness will be an even bigger problem for guards and centers to handle.

WHY IT'S BIG FOR OKLAHOMA...

Oklahoma is doing a really nice job of spot recruiting on the east coast. The Sooners have signed seven players from the Mid-Atlantic in the last two classes, including Rivals100 defensive lineman Kelvin Gilliam Jr. in last year's class. Moore is Oklahoma's first defensive line commitment in the 2022 class and there should be a few others that jump onto the bandwagon before all is said and done. The defensive line is a position of need for the Sooners this year and Moore should fit into their scheme well. Don't be surprised if he sees time fairly early in his career.
