The South Florida to Ohio pipeline remains strong for the Buckeyes. Wednesday night, Ohio State landed another five-star receiver from the Miami area gaining a commitment from Jeremiah Smith.
WHAT OHIO STATE IS GETTING
On the level of making noise with recruiting, it doesn’t get much bigger than this. Smith is the top-rated receiver in the 2024 class, rated second in the country. As a receiver, Smith has it all – size, speed, hands, and athleticism. No matter the recruits that came before him, once on campus, Smith will challenge for a roster spot from Day 1.
WHY THIS IS BIG FOR OHIO STATE
The Buckeyes have the nation’s third best 2023 recruiting class thanks in large part to the players taken out of Florida. At the top of that list, five-star receivers Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss. If anyone was worried about the possibility of Inniss flipping to Miami, this could help seal the deal for the Buckeyes.
The other part of Smith’s commitment, beyond what he brings to the field, is the message this sends to other 2024 recruits. Ohio State always recruits at the top of the game and are off to a strong start in the next cycle. The next question is, will five-star teammate Jojo Trader join him?
ON THE FIELD
Smith had a dominating season with Hollywood’s Chaminade-Madonna securing 58 passes for 1,073 yards with 20 touchdowns. The Lions were perfect during the 2022 season with a 13-0 record beating Clearwater Central Catholic for the Florida 1M state championship.
