Commitment Breakdown: Notre Dame adds rising Texas DE Loghan Thomas

Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame have gone into Texas to add the latest member of its 2024 recruiting class. Four-star Katy (Texas) Paetow defensive end Loghan Thomas revealed his commitment to the Fighting Irish on Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas trimmed his list of contenders down to five this week. In addition to Notre Dame, Arizona, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech made the cut for the pass rusher out of the Greater Houston Area.

The Fighting Irish beat out the competition for a defender that has seen his stock rise this offseason. His recruitment really took off in the months after his junior season. Thomas had a strong outing at the All-American Combine in January, where he earned top performer recognition and added power programs to his offer sheet.

Notre Dame hosted Thomas for an unofficial visit back in March. There, he was able to get his first look at the program and meet with the coaching staff. Defensive line coach Al Washington has been leading the charge for the Texas defender.

Listed at 6-4 and 210 pounds, Thomas showcased his long and lean frame while down in San Antonio. He uses his long arms to his advantage when getting after the quarterback. Thomas is quick off the line and is still developing his pass-rushing bag, suggesting some untapped potential.

Loghan Thomas is ranked as the No. 162 overall prospect in the recruiting cycle by Rivals.com. He is the No. 30 recruit in Texas and the No. 9 weakside defensive end nationally. Thomas joins a Notre Dame class that ranks inside the top-five.
