The recruiting process for four-star cornerback Conrad Hussey went down to the wire taking a closing weekend visit to Miami. But for the standout defender from Fort Lauderdale’s (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas, the Dec. 2 official to Florida State was the winning trip that led to his Penn State decommitment and signing with the Seminoles.

WHAT FLORIDA STATE IS GETTING

The Seminoles are getting a corner that can cover the field or the boundary, and a versatile piece that can track inside receivers across the field. Hussey was a key part of the Raiders’ 2022 Florida 3M state championship run (14-0). Through 12 games, Hussey was credited with 29 tackles and a team-high three picks. Hussey has the speed to stay on the hip of receivers and that playmaking athleticism needed in the ACC.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR THE SEMINOLES

Every team in the country wants a strong pipeline to South Florida talent, FSU is developing it. Going head-to-head against Big Ten power Penn State and local ACC stronghold Miami for Hussey’s signed NLI is a big deal. Securing Hussey, four-star running back Sam Singleton, and five-star receiver Hykeem Williams out of the Miami area shows FSU’s recruiting power in that area.
