A dynamic piece was added to Tennessee’s 2022 recruiting class on Friday with the verbal commitment of Kaleb Webb. The four-star Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern High School product had a dream season during his senior campaign which has led him to Knoxville.

WHAT THE VOLUNTEERS ARE GETTING

Mention the name Josh Heupel and any self-respecting college football fan immediately thinks offense. Heupel loves to air it out, and they are getting an outside receiver who can take the top off the defense. Running routes in McEachern’s spread attack, the Indians’ game plan was to throw it deep down the sideline or over the middle with the safety drawn in watching Webb lead a high-powered attack that averaged 32.75 points per game in 2021.

WHAT MAKES KALEB WEBB DIFFERENT

A vertical threat is needed in any collegiate offense and Webb provides that. With size and speed, Webb took his game to another level this fall securing 83 passes for 1,601 yards with 18 scores going up on the board. For clarity, the gaudy stats weren’t put up against scrubs. McEachern lines up against 7A Georgia teams like Grayson, Marietta, Newton, South Gwinnett and Mill Creek.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR TENNESSEE

The Volunteer’s 2022 recruiting class is a top 20 haul looking ready to make a run towards the top 10. Little surprise to see the four-stars in the class are all offensive players: quarterback Tayven Jackson, lineman Addison Nichols, and receivers Cameron Miller and Webb.

Tennessee had the fourth-rated offense in the SEC (459 ypg) in Heupel’s first season on the sidelines in Knoxville. One can’t help but wonder just how explosive this offense will be next year with more time to gel and as the staff adds key pieces to a dangerous offensive scheme.

The win along the recruiting trail speaks to the work done by Tennessee’s staff. Webb verbally committed to East Carolina on June 27, but the offers kept coming his way. After seeing him at a camp over the summer, the Volunteers dropped their offer on Aug. 28 battling against Louisville and Michigan down the stretch for his commitment.
