Once Clay Wedin announced his decommitment from Michigan State on Monday, all new it was only a matter of time before the four-star had another announcement to make. On Friday, Wedin made public his commitment to the Auburn Tigers.

WHAT AUBURN IS GETTING

Wedin is a mauler on the line of scrimmage taking on Florida competition for Carrollwood Day. The Tampa area prospect gets nasty on run plays and shows solid pass protection with good footwork and a nice punch. Listed at 6-6, 295, Wedin has the frame to add more mass once in Auburn’s strength and conditioning program. Early playing time may be at guard working his way to the outside as his overall game continues to develop.

WHAT MAKES WEDIN DIFFERENT

The size is there, the want to dominate defenders separates Wedin for his peers. Wedin is big enough to go through the motions snap after snap springing his backs for big gains or keeping his QB’s jersey clean. But watching him play, snap after snap he is working on his technique and skill developing his talents with the thought of planting defenders in the ground. He is a sponge for knowledge wanting to be the best lineman possible, that’s the type of player all coaches want on their roster.

WHY THIS IS BIG FOR AUBURN

Anytime a program can flip a four-star prospect away from another Power Five team, that is a big recruiting win. Wedin was over the 30-offer mark with opportunities extended from teams like Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, and USC. Offensive line coach Will Friend and analyst Joe Bernardi did a great job keeping on Wedin producing the flip.

On the talent acquisition front, Auburn began the day with 10 commits ranked No. 51 overall in the country. These types of recruiting victories go a long way with fanbases.

IN HIS WORDS

Wedin gave insight on why Auburn is the best fit for him at the collegiate level.

“The culture, not only with the football program but also with the campus and local area. The history, academics, and the kinesiology program, everything feels comfortable to me, and I feel that I will be able to have a lot of success on and off the field at Auburn.”
