Clemson added another big piece to their 2023 recruiting puzzle on Monday when Georgia cornerback Avieon Terrell verbally committed. The addition of the Westlake four-star defender is the fifth overall verbal commitment for the Tigers, and fifth four-star.

WHAT CLEMSON IS GETTING

When people talk about lockdown corners in this class, Terrell has to be mentioned. Getting an updated look at his skills at the Rivals Camp Series in Atlanta, Terrell is a player that can contribute early at corner or nickel for Clemson, and once he’s on the field, don’t expect him to come off until he’s off to the next level.

WHAT MAKES TERRELL DIFFERENT

The big separator for Terrell among his peer group is his route tree recognition. He never seems confused or behind the play, but rather always in front of it and ready to jump a route. His headiness mixed with great technique, hips, and speed are part of the components that have made him so highly ranked and coveted among college programs.

WHY THIS IS BIG FROM THE TIGERS

Clemson is notoriously slow along the recruiting trail, with handing out offers and filling out a class. With the changes at the college level via the transfer portal, having a better idea how a class will shape up earlier helps for the long-term vision of a roster and roster management. With this change, high school players are committing earlier staking a claim with their dream schools. It goes without saying what Terrell brings to a college roster, Clemson is getting a great one, and it is even more important that Terrell joins the class now so he can help recruit and allow the Tigers’ coaching staff to but effort into landing other players of his caliber.
