The Class of 2023 fireworks were not over for the Crimson Tide after a busy opening day on Wednesday. Alabama added to their tremendous haul on Thursday signing five-star Florida cornerback Desmond Ricks.
WHAT ALABAMA IS GETTING
From a physicality standpoint, Alabama is getting a sure thing at corner. Ricks has great size with a big wingspan extending his coverage on receivers in tight spaces. Looking at his athleticism, Ricks is as quick as can be with great hips able to switch direction on a dime.
During the 2022 season with Bradenton’s IMG Academy, Ricks reclassified from the 2024 class. As athletic and talented as he is, there still may be some learning opportunities ahead for him before becoming that All-SEC caliber player expected with a five-star label. All the tools are there.
WHY THIS IS BIG FOR THE CRIMSON TIDE
Some players post their top schools adding teams for show, that was not the case for Ricks. Ricks was also seriously considering LSU and Florida. The arms race for talent in the SEC is real, and Bama came out on top. They’ve added a player that can contribute early and one who might challenge for a starting spot as a freshman.
Alabama was already assured the top spot in the Rivals’ team recruiting rankings but bringing on a fourth five-star gives even more bragging rights to the fans and the coaching staff.
