Columbus worthy for a journey to see

Killeen, Texas, is a hotbed for college football recruiters, but for some reason many college programs have overlooked Killen High standout athlete Columbus Givens. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder has been shredding opponents right and left.
This past week, Givens, who is 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, rushed for 222 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown. But that was just some of his highlights. While playing quarterback Givens already threw for four more touchdowns and had 165 yards passing against Harker Heights.

“I can’t even begin to describe what I do best,” Givens, who has a 240-pound bench-press and a 405-pound squat, said. “I just go out there and play hard on every single play.”
Givens plays quarterback at Killeen, but most teams like him as a future cornerback.
“I think I can cover people all over the field,” he said. “I like the challenge of shutting people down.”
Givens is just beginning to start things up on the recruiting front. He has scholarship offers from Texas Tech and from SMU. He’s hoping that his solid senior season might open up even more doors and that he’d get attention from more higher-level Big 12 programs.
“I think once people see what I can do, they’re going to really like me,” Givens said.
Givens has a 2.5 grade-point average and scores a 720 on his first attempt on the SAT.
