Colorado to offer Memphis DE

Memphis (Tenn.) Ridgeway defensive end Lagrone Shields has grown and developed during the summer and is on the verge of picking up his second Big 12 scholarship offer.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Shields (up from 6-2, 240) has drawn the attention of Colorado's coaching staff and a scholarship offer from the Buffaloes.

"(Colorado) sent me a text Sunday and asked if I could I call them," Shields said. "I was speaking to the defensive line coach on the phone. They said they offer me and they are just are just waiting on my transcript."
Shields says there is one position that Colorado is looking for him to play.
"Defensive end," he said.
Shields isn't that familiar with the Buffaloes program, particularly now since new head coach Dan Hawkins and staff took over.
"Colorado just re-did its whole coaching staff and I don't know much other than that," he said.
The potential scholarship offer, however, has Colorado in the mix for his services.
"It definitely put them in the mix," he said. "I got a good feeling for the coaches I talked to. I plan to take a visit on when they play Kansas State."
Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Memphis, Clemson, Tennessee and other schools have been in contact with Shields. The Red Raiders currently have an edge.
"All schools are still in the mix, but Texas Tech is a little above everybody."
Shields is a high two-star rated prospect by Rivals.com.
