Colorado DE to take one more trip

Aurora (Colo.) Rangeview defensive end Maurice Lucas committed to Kansas State in September after choosing Colorado during the spring. Later in the fall, the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Lucas decided he wanted to take another look at both schools. Lucas made his way to Manhattan this weekend for the first of two official visits before making his selection on which school he will attend.
“We got back from Manhattan and talked about things for a little bit,” Lucas’ father, David, said. “He is kind of undecided still. It is still between Kansas State and Colorado. We enjoyed the trip to Kansas State. We got to see the school and the facilities again. And, we got to talk to the coaches. Both are good schools. He will be traveling to Colorado next month (Dec. 3). Then shortly after that he will make his final decision.

“Maurice will make the decision. It is his choice. I’m not in the decision making business for him. It is my job to help gather all of the facts and get the information for him. He’s the one that has to go to school, but I want him to make a good decision. He has to be there for four or five years.”
Rangeview coach, Dave Gonzales, has said he feels Lucas is ready physically to play in the Big 12 Conference, now. Both schools have talked about the possibility of getting on the field early.
“They are both talking about the chance of him coming in and playing right away,” the elder Lucas said. “I wouldn’t mind him redshirting for a year. That gets him that fifth year of college and more time to get his academic stuff done. It also would allow him to adjust to college life during that redshirt year. He’ll be busy either way, though.”
