Colorado CB making switch again

Denver (Colo.) Cherry Creek defensive back Van Cooper has been on the go already this summer.
“I went to the Nike camp in Boulder in the late spring,” Cooper said. “Since then, I’ve been to camps at Arizona, Colorado, and Notre Dame.”

He had planned to camp at Washington this week but injured a hand at the Notre Dame camp so he decided to pass on that one.
Other schools showing interest in Cooper are Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona State, Stanford, UCLA, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, San Diego State, Brigham Young, and Utah.
“I’m still trying to decide on a favorite,” the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Cooper said. “But my top schools are Arizona where my dad played, Auburn, Oregon, Brigham Young, San Diego State, and Colorado.”
Cooper burst onto the Colorado high school scene as a junior last year after moving to Denver from Detroit. He earned first team all-conference honors in football and track. He was also the conference’s outstanding newcomer in track.
Van started his high school career in Detroit, playing defensive tackle as a 170-pound freshman. He moved out to defensive end as a sophomore and earned all-metro honors.
Cooper played linebacker last year at Cherry Creek and looks to add to his resume by moving to cornerback next season.
“I really like linebacker,” Cooper said. “I get to run around and hit people. The college coaches are telling me that I’ll play defensive back at the next level. I’ve been working with the defensive backfield coaches at the camps, working on improving my skills at that position.
“I went out for track this spring to stay in shape and get quicker for football. I ended up going to State in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.”
